Gold and Its History

Gold is the oldest international currency in the world. The fact that it does not corrode or tarnish, it is malleable, and can be easily shaped into coins, has made gold suitable for money. In 18th century BC the first coin containing gold was struck, and the first coin made exclusively form gold was struck to honor the order of King Croesus of Lydia (around 550BC).

The Mediterranean civilizations also started to mint coins and these coins often circulated outside these countries. Roman gold coins were used long after the fall of the Roman Empire and during the Middle Ages, in Europe, gold and silver coins were at the basis of the currency systems. Nevertheless, they were considered to be far too expensive and valuable to be used for the daily transactions.

The coins used were the specie money. The value of one coin resided in the value of the metal it was made from. This type of currency was little by little replaced with specie-backed money. The latter type of money has its origins in the banker's bills of exchange.

International gold standard had a short lifespan: from the 1870s to the 1914, when First World War started. The international gold standard helped the prosperity and the steady rise of economic systems. After the War there were attempts of returning to the gold standard but they were deemed to failure due to mismanaged strategies.

After the establishment of the Bretton Woods international monetary system most Western countries were helped to emerge into a period of prosperity. But slowly the decisions that were taken at Bretton Woods became out of date and in 1971 the United States abandoned the system.

Since the Bretton Woods system came to an end, gold has no longer been the backbone of the international monetary system. It has its set of monetary functions as it is considered the "ultimate form of payment" but its main function is as a reserve for the Central Banks.

Digital Hearing aids: Why Do They Cost So Much?

The cost of one digital hearing aid can range from $1700 to $4,750 at the retail level. The costs are no doubt high but let's take a look on why digital hearing aids have such a high price tag especially compared to their analog cousins. One of the reasons that digital hearing aids bring high prices is because of all the time that is invested into research and development. Another reason for the high price is that these devices contain miniaturized computer chips, which makes them more expensive. You can always expect to pay more when you are buying the latest electronic gadgets and hearing aids are no different unfortunately.

Don't worry though; deals on digital hearing aids are available to a thrifty shopper. Keep in mind that there is a lot of competition between hearing aid suppliers. Also, the internet is allowing people to get much better deal. It is easy to save money if you take your time and shop around.

We all know that hearing aids are insanely expensive. However, if you look around you will be able to find some low cost alternatives out there. The Cost of digital hearing aids is based on the brand and model of hearing aid and what features it has.

For those people that have already wear analog devices, an upgrade to a digital model will provide stunning sound quality in normal day to day situations. A drastic improvement in hearing of normal everyday sounds is just the start. Where digital hearing aids really earn their money is eliminating background noise. Adjustments can be made without having to mess with the volume control.

The more money you are willing to spend the more you'll be impressed with the detail and quality of the sounds you can hear. If you are willing to get into the high end of digital hearing aids, you will be totally impressed with the things you can hear. Users report that they can hear even the faintest noises, and perhaps the most talked about results are the way these high end models are able to eliminate all feedback. These high tech devices also have a directional microphone which can be directed at the users front which will eliminate any surrounding noises.

If you decide that a digital hearing aid is for you then consult an audiologist. The audiologist will run test to find the degree and cause of your hearing impairment. Digital hearing aids are programmable so don't be surprised if you have to return to the doctor's office a number of times to get the device tuned in just to your liking. It might take some patience on your part but the advantages are very much worth it. Hearing aids are expensive, but you should not cut corners with something as important as your hearing.

Best of luck!

Marketing you web site - Part 4 - Using newsletters, search engines and the yellow pages

Using Newsletters to market your web site

As I stated before, it can take several times for a potential client to begin to trust you. You also want to keep the clients that you have. Part of your marketing plan will be to stay in touch with your clients. Letting them know what is happening, any sales that you may be holding, or new products/services that you may have. A great way of keeping in touch is with a newsletter.

What is a newsletter? Simply put it is a communication between you and your subscribers. By offering information that the client may find helpful, you are offering a service to them that is of value. Immense value in fact. Your information may save them time and money. Building a trust between you and the client. This trust will turn to sales over time.

So what does it take to get a newsletter off the ground so to speak? Two things: First is to have the clients/customer sign up for the newsletter. This can be a simple email or mailing program. RD Web hosting has a mailing list package that is part of the hosting plan. It is simple yet effective. Click here to see it in action. The second thing is a newsletter. This can be written in any word processing program or in your email software. It doesn't have to be long and complicated.

Let's say for example you have found a new recipe. Something that you think your subscribers would be interested in. You type up the recipe along with an introduction and paste it into your email program or mailing list software. From there you send it to each of your subscribers. Cost? A few minutes of time. No printing or mailing charges required. Oh, by the way, in that little letter you sent to each subscriber, you place a little advertising for your web site or store. Or maybe you have 'sold' some space to a friend or business associate who may have something of interest to your subscribers as well.

Newsletters are a great and inexpensive advertising medium. Just remember to place articles of interest in the newsletter and not all advertising. There is nothing worse than getting mail that is all ads. Over time people will stop reading it if they don't find the information useful.

Using Search engines and marketing your web site

Search Engines (SE) are the mystery of the Internet. So many different types even from the users standpoint. There are over 225,000 search engines and directories on the Internet. How do they work and why should you care?

Basically, a search engine is a database of web pages that contains information about that page such as: where it can be found (URL); what is on it (Keywords); when it was last indexed; and a description (Title) of the web page. When you go to a search engine and type in your request (query) the database engine pulls up the data that matches your request. So a search engine is only as good as the data in it. How do we get that data? Most search engines are copies of the major databases. There are only a few real databases out there. So lets talk general terms. Data can be entered by the owner of the website. This information is then indexed and your site is listed. In the past that is how things worked. But we soon found out that people will do anything to get their website listed at the top of the page where they will be more likely to have the searcher click on their site. The owner of the database needed a better way. So programs where written called spiders to go out on the web and find websites. Then catalog each page of the website and enter that information into the database. Today that process is still going on. However, again the owners of the database have tried to make sure that the website information is correct and have been constantly changing the formula used to determine how a website should be listed based on it keywords, headers, titles, content, alt tags, etc. Some database owners even have people visit the website and make a judgment call. All of this is to insure that when you enter a search phrase into the search engine you receive the type of information you want. If you are happy with the search engine you will continue to use it and the advertisements placed on the search engine will help pay for the site.

Search engine technology is changing daily. To try and cover it here would be a waste of your time as it will be out of date tomorrow. So I have listed a site that does nothing more than follow and report on this technology. It is:
Search Engine Watch

What is important for us as website owners is know how to make sure we are properly listed and learn how to get the best listing on the search engines. So lets see... there are 1440 minutes per day and 225,000 search engines. That means if we spend just 10 minutes per search engine entering in our website information it will only take us1562 days to enter the information. But you should submit your website at least every other month, so you can see that is not going to work. There are all kinds of software and website services that will do this for you. But remember there are really only about 4 major databases that feed all those search engines. Even when your website is listed you may not have a very good placement due to other factors. As I said the database owners are constantly changing the rules. So what can you do?

Start with proper design of your website. Good content that is kept up to date. The spiders will find you over time and your ranking will improve as your use of keywords and content are evaluated. Other things that will help is the linking to your site from others. If you have good information, others will point their website to yours which will help your ranking in the search engines. All in all, this will take months to accomplish. But you want to start making money today!

Another way to get listed on search engines faster and at the top of the rankings is with PPC or Pay Per Click. PPC Search Engines charge you each time a user clicks your listing and goes to your website. In addition, many PPC have made arrangements with other search engines to place the paying website URL at the top of the listing (these are called sponsor sites). What does that mean for you as a website owner? Well, it means lots of traffic to your website that you can sell to over and over again. What will it cost? Hmmm how many secrets to give away in a free book :). Oh well, why not! The cost is dependent on how many other people want to be in the top listing. For example: Overture.com has agreements with Yahoo, MSN, AOL and others that the 3 top bidders for keywords will be listed in the top 3 spots for that keyword on each of these search engines. By the way, as of December 2002 those 3 search engines accounted for over 80 percent of all searches on the web. Think that might be a nice place to have your website listed? Ok, back to the example. Let’s say I sell training, I research the keywords and find out that the top 3 positions go for $1.50, $1.45, $1.00 per click to my website. I have a product that sells for $795 per course. I could bid $1.51 and take the top spot. But remember I will have to pay the PPC for each person that clicks on my link. It can quickly run into the hundreds of dollars. I could also pay $1.01 and take the 3rd position saving me $.50 per click. Not all keywords are that expensive...some are more :). Actually you may find your keywords very inexpensive around 10- 20 cents per click.
PPC also do not care about keywords, titles, headers, content etc. So I can write a more compelling description here that will call to action the searcher to click on my site. BUT, once there I want to do everything I can to get them to leave their email address in exchange for my free product or gift. I do not want them coming back though PPC again. It will cost me more money that way. If I have their email address I can send them my link in other correspondence. We will talk about that later in auto responders.

Here is a list of some of the PPC. Since they drive qualified traffic to your site I would recommend using all of them. You will find your keywords cheaper on the less used sites but that is still traffic that you can sell to.

www.overture.com
www.google.com
www.findwhat.com
www.looksmart.com
www.7search.com

This is a lot of work. I know I have spent hours on Overture alone trying to monitor the website, keywords, and ranking.
I have said before in this course that automation is the key. The more we can automate the more time we have to spend on other things... maybe the family?

Using Yellow pages to market your web site

If you have a local business then you probably already have a business phone number. Most business phone services come with a listing in the local yellow pages. Be sure to list you website address. This is much more powerful form of advertising then just placing your address and phone number. Remember your site can offer specials, gather email or contact information, give away items or gifts to your customers to get them to visit your store, tell the customer so much more than you could afford to do in the phone book itself. Plus many people will bookmark your site and return time and time again once they see all the great information that you have available on the site.

I hope you have found some useful information in this package. I have strived to put together information about most of the different methods you can use to market you business.

Insurance and Hearing Aids

Insurance is important for everyone since it involves monetary benefits for the policy holder as long as one lives and the beneficiaries after the policy holder's death. Insurance is of many types life, education, future, retirement, medical, pension, vehicle and many more.

When one considers the medical insurance it is necessary to take into account what types of medical claims one is eligible to make. It is always quite confusing when taking a medical insurance since the terms varies from company to company. It is the same in the case of a medical insurance for the hearing impaired.

While hearing-aids are not covered under the medical insurance a cochlear implant is covered in the claim. The cochlea implant is a process that stimulates the cells of the inner ear and provides the required sound that a hearing impaired person needs to hear well. Since this includes a surgery the implant is covered under the insurance plan.

One would be curious to know why hearing-aids are not covered under insurance. The main reason is that there are many people who suffer with hearing impairment and almost everyone use hearing-aids. But that is not so with a cochlear implant. Few people opt for this surgery.

Hearing-aids today are quite expensive if one wants to get the best and the latest in style and technology. Not everyone could afford a proper hearing aid and hence go in for cheap models which most of the time do not last long or do not fit properly. In such cases since hearing-aids are not covered under insurance it is better to settle for a one time payment and get a cochlear implant, especially if the patient is young.

It is always best to use hearing aids if one is suffering from hearing loss, or get a cochlear implant if they are very young. In the case of senior citizens they would prefer to settle for hearing aids insurance or not. Whatever the reason be, if people find it difficult to get new hearing aids there are hearing aid banks available that sell them at a cheap rate.

A New Orleans Chiropractor's View On Changing Perceptions Of Chiropractic In The US

The art and science of the chiropractor has often been maligned by the western health establishment. The historical animosity is mostly due to the fact that western medicine tends to employ a philosophy of reductionism, which states that the best way to understand how the human body works, how pathologies originate, and how to treat them can best be accomplished by reducing the body to its component parts. The body is classified into organ systems, then into individual organs, which are then divided into their component tissues, and finally individual cells themselves. Traditional western medicine seeks to localize the cause of pathology and then treat the disorder at the narrowest level of scope possible. This reductionism is in direct contrast to the holistic approach taken by the chiropractor. The chiropractor, much like the traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, realizes that the body can not be effectively reduced into component parts. The chiropractor views life as an emergent phenomenon that both encompasses and transcends its component parts. In recent years, many western science practitioners have begun to appreciate the holistic approach of the chiropractor and chiropractic treatments are starting to find their rightful place in the medical mainstream.

The chasm between holistic health care and traditional western medicine is narrowing. Just as physicians are beginning to appreciate the benefits of holistic approaches to health, some chiropractors are also employing some of the techniques and tools of conventional western medicine in their practice. Traditional spine manipulation techniques are combined with modern radiological diagnostic equipment to determine the most effective treatment for the patient. Chiropractors are also trained to recognize the symptoms of serious conditions, such as cancer, and when they detect such a disorder they refer the patient to a health care provider that specializes in that condition. Clearly, chiropractic practice is increasingly being seen more as a complement to traditional health care rather than a direct competitor.

The public has taken note of the changing relationship between the chiropractor and the physician. For this reason, many insurance policies now provide coverage for chiropractic treatments. Additionally, the United States Armed Forces now mandates that all service men and women must have access to a chiropractor while in active service. Many athletes also take advantage of chiropractic treatment, both professional and amateurs. The United States Olympic team keeps a number of chiropractors on staff and chiropractic care is now seen as an integral part of the modern athletic training regimen.

The increased acceptance of chiropractic along with other holistic therapies is not accidental. Scientific studies have shown that holistic techniques are highly effective at treating certain kinds of disorders, including some disorders that can not be easily treated using standard medical techniques. Holistic medicine, once viewed as a fringe pseudoscience, is enjoying an increasingly positive reputation among the general public as well as professional health care providers. Since chiropractic care is now more widely available than in days past, and since many insurance policies now cover the services of a chiropractor, the health care consumer finds that he or she has more options than before and is therefore able to take a more active role in planning his or her own health care.

Hearing Aids Cost - Finding Affordable Solutions

There are many different factors that come into play when determining how much hearing aids cost. First, you will have to determine which kind you want. This includes choosing between larger or smaller models, digital or old-style analog hearing aids, and whether or not you need the cheapest solution that you can find.

You're obviously not going to get top-of-the-line equipment if you can't afford it. However, there are many great solutions to help alleviate the costs and get you the hearing aids that you need.

Hearing aids cost enough as it is. However, that's not the only price tag that you should worry about. You also have to factor in the medical exam, tests, adjustments, warranties, services, and other elements. Every different hearing aid facility has their own rates on these things, as well as the actual costs of the hearing aids themselves.

Once you have taken the time to get a medical exam and all the necessary testing, then you are given the chance to choose which hearing aids you want to buy. Here's a tip: if you have insurance, get them to pay for anything that you can. Even if they only cover the costs of the tests and exam, that will still cut your expenses down.

Hearing aids cost a lot of money, but if you take the time to consider your options and see what's out there, you should be able to find what you need. Some places will set up payment plans with you, which allows you to get the medical devices that you need while still being able to afford them.

Other times, you might opt for a less advanced, older style of hearing aid simply because they are cheaper and still effective. The latest technology is great, but if the older styles still work, what's the problem?

There is also the stigma attached to having hearing aids, which is the ultimate factor for many people. So many people could benefit from these great devices, but very few actually wear them because they are embarrassed.

If your quality of life and hearing abilities are improved, it shouldn't matter what people think, really. Take the time to accept that this is an improvement to your life, and check out how much different hearing aids cost so that you can get the best pair for your needs...

Appealing to Humanity

We are writing this letter to you in behalf of Gregory Reyes, who is due to be sentenced in your court on November 21, 2007.

We have been close friends of the entire Reyes family for approximately twenty years. We moved to San Diego from Illinois in 1988 when I became a partner in a golf shaft manufacturing company. My wife is a homemaker. We are the parents of two sons, and three grandchildren. I am now retired.

During my professional career, I traveled a good deal of the time, and this placed a tremendous burden on our family. It is for this reason, I am appealing to your humanity. Greg and Penny Reyes have two children, at very vulnerable ages. Taking their father away can only do more damage to this family than has already been done by the trial.

I don't believe the charges he has been found guilty| of warrant a prison sentence, and that for the good of the Reyes family, I hope you feel the same way. Putting Gregory Reyes behind bars will not serve society, but will indeed destroy a family.

Thank you for your consideration.

Hearing Loss Affects Income

By the end of this article, you should have gained enough new knowledge on this subject to be able to explain its main points to another person.

Did you know that the number of Americans who find it fractious to learn lacking learning help amounts to more than 31.5 million! That is an augment of 9.9 percent while 2000! This is the newest newscast from The Better inquiry Institute (BHI) which available these findings in successor July 2005 tale. In that publication, BHI also documented that coarse learning loss has a tremendously damaging outcome on individual incomes.

According to the October 2005 newspaper of the inquiry magazine, Vol. 12, No. 11, p. 16, learning loss can bang household income by as greatly as $12,000 per year, depending leading the extent of learning loss! The good newscast is that learning aids do help change this picture by 50%. Of that 31.5 million build, only 37% are retirement age. The popular of those who bear from unaided learning loss are of drill age or are presently in the work vigor.

Inquiry loss in the work vigor

From this point forward, we will let you in on little secrets that will help you implement this subject into your life.

As you can presume, learning is serious in order to outcome lively communicate in the work vigor. In addition, it's an important wellbeing feature in many work situations. Not learning leads to mistakes which concern buyer control and rite that can detriment a band. Inquiry loss most indeed has a damaging outcome on one's work performance. Ironically, many elect not to garments a learning aid because they don't want successor loss to be deceptive to others but learning loss is not something that can be unknown. A learning loss is more noticeable than learning aids.

Inquiry loss and age groups

Only 23% of learning impaired Americans has learning help for successor loss. Here are some additional statistics: Of the baby boomer segment (ages 41-59 hey, that's me!!), 1 in 6 have a learning loss. And what sincerely is alarming is that 1 in 14 of the Generation X set (ages 29-40) already has learning loss!

If you think our country has learning tricky, deem the grandeur of learning in Barcelona, Spain. Half of successor children population has lasting learning loss due to sound exposure from delicate stereos, passage, and discos. They quote that many will requisite a learning aid by the time successor 40 existence old!

In our staff, we are since more children people part of the work vigor population with learning loss. The yearly detriment of coarse learning loss in our country, in language of forlorn income, is quoted to complete more than $100 billion a year!!

Inquiry loss bang on individuals and families

Of course, learning loss has even more of a bang leading a quality's everyday life. Inquiry loss can concern one's corporeal, emotional and mental fitness. It concerns others' perceptions of one's mental acumen and concerns one's common skills. It has a bang on identity respect and confidence. All these concern a quality's drill and work performance.

In addition, learning loss concerns one's family relationships. The bang leading a family can be enormous. We have actually had couples in our staff on the edge of annulment because a spouse nonstop to be in refusal about successor learning loss. One spouse had her nerves edgy and her throat raw due to constantly replicating her identity rowdily. Her spouse made a half-learned shot at receiving learning help, but ultimately reforms to garments a learning aid. The stress and strain on a relationship when one spouse has to constantly augment successor proclaim and replicate what they say, can be beautiful intense. Add to that a spouse who no longer requests to participate in common trial because they can't learn and you have a foremost failure waiting to ensue.

Subsidy of learning aids

Helen Keller said, "When you consume your foresight, you consume dealings with stuff. When you consume your learning, you consume dealings with people." BHI found that the cosmic popular of people who tried learning aids felt that successor lives had superior.

The good newscast is that nowadays, there are a load of choices in learning help. Bendy, smarmy digital goods can be obtained at very reasonable prices at a little of what some analogs worn to detriment! In addition, even however documentation shows that income declines as learning loss augments, the decline in income is cut by half for those who garments learning aids. It's good to know that learning loss does not have to have the damaging bang it once had. There are solutions!

The Ups and Downs of Downloadable DS Games

What is a DS?
The DS, or Nintendo DS, is an advanced technology apparatus that plays video games on a duel screen monitor. It is a handheld game system that allows gaming enthusiasts to bring high quality games with them when they are on the road or otherwise unable to play a counsel system. However, with the DS, has become a standalone system that has most gamers itching to try it. It was developed and produced by the Nintendo organization and was released in 2004 in multiple countries including Canada, Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom. The clamshell design is similar to the Game Boy Advance, which was the predecessor to the Nintendo DS, but the Nintendo DS has duel screens with the lower one being designed as a touch screen.

Download DS Games
Though there are some problems with downloadable DS games, they hardly outweigh the possible positives when it comes to these games. Downloadable DS games are games that can be downloaded off the wireless internet that is available for the Nintendo DS. These games are similar to WiiWare games in that they are not usually full length games, but they are still fantastically composed and capable of providing hours of gaming fun. There are even some free downloadable DS games available, but these are rarer than the purchased ones.
A few cons to downloadable DS games include the fact that the download speed is relatively poor. When downloading a game for the DS, it can take many minutes, even hours in some extreme cases. This can be more than a little frustrating for those that want to just play the game.
Another problem is that there is a possibility for an adware infiltration which can potentially do damage to the DS. However, this is only caused by poor usage of the wireless internet system.
These few cons are not enough to make the whole of the system poor. The Nintendo DS has many games online that may be downloaded on the SD card of the system. This can allow numerous downloadable games to be purchased or downloaded on a single system. The downloadable games for the DS are also very fun and very addicting. They can provide just as much if not more fun that any retail game for the DS or a consol alike. Once the games are downloaded there are usually no problems with operation.

Have You Ever Had Your Palm Red? Online Psychic Readings Are As Easy As 1, 2, 3

Okay, I couldn't resist flashing back to childishness and old jokes, and I don't have any red paint on me at the moment. Nowadays, you don't need to leave your own home to have an online psychic reading of your future and like everything else, you will find it online. You can even train to be a psychic online because many psychics are offering to teach you how. They “provide clear information” about the latest psychical research with news from “trustworthy” official psychic organizations with the official bodies and federations, along with teaching about psychic abilities and offer to teach you how to do readings. There are classes, study courses, clairvoyance readings practice, just to name a few options. You can learn to read Tarot cards and different practices such as Mediumistic and Rune readings, along with listening to audio recordings of the New Age gurus. Some online psychics invite you to visit their chat rooms and be social with other psychics and meet new people.

There are true psyches around, and the good ones offer their services for the good of others. Many work for police departments looking for missing people or searching for bad people. True psychics are not out to clean you out and some do make a living out of telling people their futures. There are many though that are just complete thieves and those are the ones you need to look out for. They promote themselves as clairvoyants or psychics and claim they have powers that enable them to read a persons future, make contact with a dead loved one, or tell you who your going to marry. However, they are not psychics, they just have the ability to read people well and tell them what they want to hear, and all the while filling their pockets with peoples' hard earned money. Here are a few tips to help you see a fraud psychic.

• The most common method is “cold reading,” this involves reading body language, and listening to your voice.

• Over confidence is a good warning, if they build themselves up to were they can do no wrong, watch out!

• Questions about your background. This is unnecessary, if a “psychic asks you where were you born, your parents religion, or even educational level, move on.

• Gaining your cooperation in advance. These “psychics” claim they need your full cooperation and if nothing happens, you weren't a “true believer.”

Now, you are not able to see these things with online psychic reading, so you should be very careful when paying for online readings. Try not to take online psychic readings too seriously and use them for what they are there for, to have fun and to satisfy your curiosity about online psychics. Do you really want to know what your future holds for you? Wouldn't you rather be surprised about what exciting things the future holds for you and yours?

Grow Some Interesting Plants You Won't Find At Your Local Greenhouse.

Do you scour your seed catalogs or look at all the new varieties that have come out in your gardening magazines? You can’t wait to go to your local greenhouse and purchase them for your garden or flower bed. But when you get there, you find they don’t carry that variety.

Why not start them yourself?

So how do you start? First of all make a list of the varieties that look interesting to you. If you are a newbie at seed starting, try and pick some plants that would be easy to grow. There is no use getting discouraged with finicky plants your first time at it. Also keep your list to a minimum. You don’t want to overload yourself in the beginning.

Purchase seeds early enough in the season so that you can give them a good start if they need extra time. If seed companies haven’t been sending you catalogs, then go on the internet and search for seed catalogs and I’m sure you can find some sites that will be happy to send you a catalog.

Some plants need a long growing season, so you will need to start them early in the house if you live in the northern areas of the country. Vegetable plants like tomatoes and peppers or flowers such as impatiens and pansies.

What do you need if you are going to start your own seeds? Clean containers, good soilless seed starting mix, fertilizer, warmth, and plenty of light. You can buy special containers, re-use some from plants you have purchased, or some type of container you have around the house. I use empty milk cartons plenty of times. You can also use the milk cartons for making labels so you remember what seeds are in the container.

Do you happen to have some old seeds from past projects that were never used? See if they are still viable by pre-sprouting. Dampen paper towels, spread out the seeds, and put the folded towel in a bag. Place in a warm area and check every few days. If they haven’t sprouted in 10-14 days, I would give up and throw them out. You can also do this to speed up the germination of new seeds before you plant. Just handle very carefully when planting so you don’t damage the root. This is not good to do with very small seeds.

You are now ready to plant. If you are re-using cell packs or flats, wash first with a mild dish detergent and then dip in a mix of 1 part bleach to 9 parts hot water, let dry. In cell packs, place 2 seeds in each cell to be sure of getting at least one sprouted seed. If two sprout, snip out the weaker of the two with scissors. Very fine seeds could be spread onto a flat filled to the brim for good air flow.

Start at the right time. If started too early, seedlings will get weak and spindly without good lighting. If you don’t have a really good sunny windowsill you will need a special grow light to be sure of good growth.

When it is time to put your plants in the ground, you will want to harden them off for a few days to prepare them for the outdoor environment. One way is to hold off on the water a little and also place them outside for just a few hours a day, increasing the time gradually. In a week they should be able to handle the outside world without transplant shock.

Do you have a little experience starting your own seeds? Maybe you want to try something a little more challenging. How about tree, shrubs, or wildflower seeds? Generally, these seeds need stratification to germinate. That is, they need to go through some cold and moist temperatures plus warmth to break dormancy. Some will want darkness and some light. You need to know the specifics of the plant you want to start.

To stratify your seeds try this method. Sow seeds in moist soilless mix in a plastic container with a tight fitting lid or plastic wrap to hold the moisture and prevent spills. You don’t need a large amount of mix to get them to sprout. Place in the refrigerator for one week and then remove to let them warm up for a day or two. Place in the freezer for one week and then remove to let them warm up again. Alternate this method at least twice before keeping them in a warm environment to allow them to germinate.

If you have some really hard seeds, then you can try scarification by rubbing the seed with sandpaper or an emery board. You can also nick the seed with a knife but be sure not to damage the embryo.

Learning to start seeds can be fun and rewarding but it can also be frustrating if you don’t take time to learn the basics before moving on to the harder to start varieties.

Hearing Aids - 4 Tips On Choosing The Right One

When the symphony doesn't sound as sweet and the laughter of your grandchildren is slowly fading away, wearing a hearing aid is one of the best ways to improve your hearing ability. There are several factors to consider when buying a hearing aid, such as your budget, hearing aid style, technology, lifestyle concerns and hearing loss level.

Here are 4 tips on choosing the right hearing aid.

Hearing Aid Styles

The suitability of a hearing aid style is determined by the level of hearing loss, although most people with lifestyle and aesthetic concerns tend to select the style that they prefer.

An individual suffering from severe hearing loss will not benefit from a CIC model (Completely in the Canal), which is the smallest kind of hearing aid. This particular selection enhances the natural sound-collecting characteristics of the ear in minor hearing loss cases. CIC models are near invisible to the eye because they are placed far into the ear canal. CIC's are also custom-made and only work with users who have an ear canal large enough to handle this type of hearing aid insertion.

An ITC (In the Canal) model is slightly bigger than a CIC and is also placed far into the ear canal. With a somewhat larger battery, this style accommodates mild to moderate hearing loss. An ITE (In the Ear) option offers a wide range of uses that helps a variety of hearing loss levels. They are larger in size, but provide enhanced sound amplifiers, as well as additional features, including a telephone switch. Some patients feel that this type of hearing aid is easier to manage.

A BTE (Behind the Ear) showcases electronic features contained within a case positioned behind the ear. Tubes and other customized characteristics are utilized to drive sound to the ear canal. Usually presenting a sturdy body, this model is often selected for children with hearing problems. This type of hearing aid also provides increased amplification over smaller selections. To accommodate an array of lifestyle concerns, a BTE hearing aid may come in a variety of colors to match hair and skin tone.

Cost of Hearing Aids

Hearing aid prices depend on the style, features, accessories, warranty, telephone coils, advanced microphones, insurance coverage, and whether or not you need one or two hearing aids. Overall, a pair of hearing aids can cost between $500 and $6000.

Hearing Aid Technology

Basic analog technology provides the same amount of amplification regardless of sound changes. Most hearing aid users of the analog model complain that they often face periods of receiving too much sound or not enough. Basic analog hearing aids are the cheapest, making them a reasonable choice for someone on a budget.

Programmable analog technology offers amplification adjustments. Certain programmable analog hearing aids come with multiple settings. You can change the setting with a remote control or by pushing a button on the hearing aid according to your situation.

Over the years, the technology associated with hearing aids has come a long way. Digital technology utilizes computer chips to separate incoming sound into different bands and channels. Digital hearing aids highlight the most advanced technology that allows the most accurate prescription fittings.

Where to Buy

A patient may purchase a hearing aid directly through a hearing instrument manufacturer and hearing aid dispenser. Many companies now market their hearing devices on the Web, and often entice buyers with discounted prices. The internet also offers auction sites that provide fair hearing aid prices.

Careful comparison-shopping can help you find a hearing aid that meets your budget and hearing needs.

Our brain uses three auditory factors namely, the slight difference in time it takes for a given sound to reach each ear; the difference in the loudness of a given sound as heard in each ear, and; the slight difference in the pitch of a given sound as heard in each ear. How To Become A Medical Assistant

How to become a medical assistant is a question anyone interested in medical assisting needs to ask considering all the healthcare offers found out there. Training is key to fulfilling the dream of a career in the medical assistant field. It is a popular choice for many people who want to earn a good salary while helping people to get well. It is not practically impossible to get a doctor assistant's position without training as you can learn on the job but these chances are pretty rare.

Most training is carried out in colleges that are approved by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). Some schools including private ones offer training online and some are recognized by the AAMA. Learning online is not for everyone as there will a lack of a practical setting to observe the tasks being taught though it is not impossible to learn online. It may be ideal for people already working in a medical setting. Previous volunteer work in hospitals may be very useful in this regard.

The training usually lasts one year (for a diploma) and covers in general these areas: physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology, transcription, recordkeeping, typing, accounting, and even insurance processing. They also study medical law, relations with patients, medical administration and principles of pharmacy and other courses central to a medical career. At the end of the training, students take exams and have to undergo a practical internship to complete the training successfully.

You can choose any of the many positions within the medical field like radiology assistant, emergency medical technician, or physician assistant, physical therapy assistant, medical examiner assistant.

The American Association of Medical Assistants is the most well known certification body. There are other certifying bodies; find out which ones are in your area. Certification means that one is competent and has more credibility and so increases the chances of employment. The employment chances of medical assistants will grow 35% more than other occupations in 2007-2016 so the chances of employment are very good. With experience and more training you can advance to other jobs in the medical field. You can retrain to be a clinical officer or go to university and specialize in a particular field.

Medical assistants are a very important part of the medical field because without them doctors would be overworked and would have little time to dedicate to managing the health of their clients. They have to do research to help them in diagnosis and sometime have to travel to more than one place to see patients. Without medical assistants this would not be possible.

Electric Stairlifts Provide Mobility And Safety

For most of us, simply climbing and descending the stairs in our home is something we take for granted; often we give little or no thought at all to the endless trips we make up and down on a daily basis. But for those for whom the stairs are a physical challenge, the prospect of walking up or down must be approached with caution and considerable thought. Subsequently, in the event of a decline in physical fitness – due to illness, injury, or age – electric stairlifts can make the impossible possible again.

Electric stairlifts are comprised of a swivel seat that allows users to easily sit down. With one simple touch of a button, the seat travels up or down the stairs along a track. Such a system can be used indoors as well as outdoors and tracks can be manipulated to accommodate straight or curved stairways.

Battery operated stairlifts do exist – and can be helpful should the power go out. But the disadvantage of battery stairlifts is that batteries must be frequently recharged – a process that takes a bit of time. In general, electric stairlifts are far more reliable, as you never have to worry about the batteries dying – or purchasing expensive new batteries. Although experts agree that you should always have batteries on hand should the power go out and the stairlift becomes inoperable.

There are a number of electric stairlifts for purchase through reputable companies nationwide. Use online resources in order to find the system that works for your home and budget. Once you make a choice, the company will come in and professionally install the system on the stairs of your choice.

Electric stairlifts are meant to make stairs accessible and convenient for those who have physical limitations. With proper planning, you can have a professionally installed stairlift in your home, making life that much easier to manage.

Option Trading – Thinking “Outside The Box”

Wouldn't it be great if we could buy an option with five months left until expiration and sell an option with 2 months left until expiration for the same price? You couldn't lose. Well we can't. I love options spreads so much I realized something very important.

We can buy a spread that has a lot of time value left at almost the same price as we can sell one with less time value left. The reason really opened my eyes and gave me new insight into options. Here is what I came to realize.

I started comparing how expensive options were in relation to the other strike prices in the same month and to the other months. I wanted to know based on the price per day which options were more expensive.

The first 1 or 2 option months, as everyone knows loses time value quickly. The at the money strike prices are very expensive compared to the out of the money strike prices. Since there is not that much time left, how much can they charge for an out of the money option? Not much.

The next several months, the opposite is true. Compared to each other, the strikes that are closer to the money are cheaper in terms of price per day than the options further out of the money. Let me explain it another way using the S&P market.

6 days left at the money option cost 12 points
6 days left out of the money option cost 2 points

70 days left at the money option cost 43 points
70 days left out of the money option cost 29 points

There is more than 10X the time left but the 70 day at the money option (43 points) is only less than 4X the price than the 6 day at the money option (12 points).

The 70 day out of the money option (29 points) is almost 15X the cost of the 6 day out of the money option (2 points) but only has 10X the time value. We will buy the cheaper per day options and sell the more expensive per day ones.

Sell 6 day at the money and sell 70 day out of the money. Buy 6 day out of the money and buy 70 day at the money. This will be done for a 4 point debit. We are now buying a spread that has 10X more time value than the one we are selling and are only paying 4 points for it.

When the 6 day options expire we can sell the next month to take in more premium, still keeping the 70 day option spread.

What goes up, must come down! We have all heard this before in reference to the laws of Gravity. We have laws in the commodity markets as well. What comes down, must go up! The greatest traders of our time like Warren Buffet know this. He is perhaps the greatest Stock trader ever. He had never traded commodities until a few years ago. He bought silver in the futures market. When the market went even lower he bought more.

The “smart money”, commercials will not be scared into selling when a market they have purchased drops even further. They know better than anyone that a commodity has real value and will always be worth something.

There is a famous book, “You Can't Lose Trading Commodities”. The author buys commodities and then just waits for the market to go higher. He would purchase more as the market fell.

You need a big bankroll for this. Personally I know corn won't go to $1.00 but what if it did? I want to minimize the risk in case I want to end the trade.

I started trading the Soy Complex this way several years ago. Not with options. Strictly futures. I bought what was similar to a crush spread. I increased the contracts as the market went against me until the spread rebounded a little. Since I increased the contracts I didn't need the market to come back to where I started. It only had to rebound to the next level.

Black Jack players did this until Casinos caught on and put limits on bets. It is a known fact that futures traders make good gamblers and professional gamblers make good futures traders. I am against gambling but even gambling done with a system is not really gambling.

These card players would bet something like this: $5 lose, $10 lose, $20 lose, $40 lose, $80 win. The losses add up to $75. They would win $80, so the profit is $5. Not a lot, but they would do this all day. Black Jack is just under 50% probability for the player.

The problem is there is a slight chance that you could lose 40 times in a row. Now with Commodities we have a 50% probability and we won't lose 50 times in a row because the market can't go below zero.

Now before I go any further, I need to tell you that I am not recommending you double down on your trades. What you can find are markets that are near their lows where you can do a small scale trade. Spreads offer even better opportunities. They have a closer range (high to low).

By now you can see we only use this to go long a market since we can never be sure how much a market can go higher. First we need to find a market that is low already so we won't have to wait that long and also so there will be less capital needed.

I prefer to trade this using options. There are many ways to do this. You could buy an option in a market like soybeans and choose how many cents the market will drop before you buy more. The problem is, an option is a wasting asset. The Theta (time decay) would cause you to lose money.

I use spreads so I am not paying for time decay. I will probably sell more Theta than I buy, so if the market does nothing I will make money just on time decay.

Wholesale Jewelry - Know How to Get Your Money's Worth When Buying Wholesale Silver Jewelry

When buying wholesale silver jewelries that you will resell online, you may need to take at least a crash course on jewelry appraising or have someone with experience by your side to help you obtain the right quality of silver jewelries without being shortchanged.

There are quite a number of considerations that a retailer should learn when ascertaining the value of silver jewelries. One of these has to do with finishing. Majority of sterling silver jewelries you will find are plated since over time silver tends to turn yellow and plating it gives it a shield of protection. The material used for plating may greatly affect the final price of the jewelry. If the plating used is rhodium which is a precious metal and much more expensive than sterling silver, the value of the jewelry will be much more expensive than those that were plated in non-precious metals like nickel. Most Italian sterling silver is plated in nickel.

Many prefer rhodium because it makes the silver very resistant to tarnishing. To reduce cost, many manufacturers would first give the silver a coating of copper before finally plating it in rhodium. However, silver with copper may turn green when worn by people with a skin type that may cause a reaction. Thus, it is good to ask your supplier whether the jewelry you are about to buy is directly plated in rhodium or if it contains another metal other than rhodium and silver. There are sterling silver jewelries that are not plated at all but instead they are polished in a machine. The process of polishing silver does not entail any raw material cost and jewelries finished this way are sometimes less expensive than plated ones. Those with an antique finish have been dipped in a chemical that has the ability to oxidize silver and then they are polished. This kind of finishing should not cost more than the regular high polished sterling silver.

Also to be considered when buying silver jewelries is the stone cutting. Many silver jewelries may include stones as part of the jewelries' design. Stones, whether natural or synthetic, may cost more or less depending on the stone cutting. For example, stones in princess cut will cost more than round cut. However, the emerald cut or baguette cut would cost more than the princess cut.

The manner of stone setting also dictates the final cost of the silver jewelry. An inexpensive way to set stones on silver is through wax setting. Stones set in this manner are arranged on the mold prior to pouring of hot melted silver. The whole piece including the stones is cast out from the mold. This method of setting actually reduces the quality of the stones due to the heated silver and the quality of setting is not consistent.
In contrast, hand-setting the stones produces better quality silver jewelries but then they are much more expensive because their production is more labor intensive.

Lastly, the process by which the metal part of the jewelry is produced largely determines the cost of the finished jewelry. Some silver jewelries are merely cut out from silver sheets which is less expensive than the traditional way of casting silver on a mold. The latter is more costly because the silver metal after casting, still goes through a series of steps like polishing and filing making its production more laborious and thus more expensive.

Common Hearing Aid Myths

MYTH: Hearing aids will cure hearing loss or restore a hearing impaired individual’s hearing to normal.

TRUTH: No hearing aid will ever allow a hearing impaired individual to have normal hearing. A hearing aid just cannot provide what the ear and its intricate working of nerves can. What it can do is amplify sounds so that those wearing them can benefit from and enjoy a wide variety of listening situations. Hearing better helps one to respond appropriately thus improving communication skills.

MYTH: Hearing aids will resolve all of a hearing impaired individual’s communication difficulties.

TRUTH: This is impossible, although hearing aids go a long way in helping a hearing impaired individual with their communication skills. Hearing aid wearers often still have problems following conversations when background noise is present or in noisy public settings, thus inhibiting their ability to communicate effectively in those situations.

MYTH: Hearing aids will destroy residual hearing.

TRUTH: Since hearing aids are prescribed according to an individual wearer’s specific hearing loss, it would be a rare occurrence for a hearing aid to cause further damage to a person’s hearing. There are several things a hearing impaired individual can do to further reduce the possibility of damage caused by hearing aids. They must be well maintained, worn correctly and well fitted.

MYTH: Smaller hearing aids have better technology.

TRUTH: Both larger hearing aids and smaller ones are equipped with cutting edge technology. The two most common types of hearing aids are behind the ear (BTE) and completely in the canal (CIC) hearing aids. Whether or not an individual will be able to wear a hearing aid that is nearly invisible to a casual observer, depends on the type of hearing impairment they have. The hearing aid that is most appropriate for one person’s degree of impairment or listening needs, may not necessarily be best suited to another person.

MYTH: Hearing aids are not absolutely necessary for relatively minor hearing losses.

TRUTH: It is not advisable to put off obtaining hearing aids until hearing loss becomes a bigger problem. Over time the risk of permanent sound distortion increases. In this case, even when hearing aids amplify the volume of the spoken word it can still sound garbled.

MYTH: Hearing aids will not be effective for some types of hearing losses.

TRUTH: Generations ago people with certain types of hearing losses, such as high frequency, were told there was little or no help out there for them. With advances in hearing aid technology this is no longer true. Hearing aids are now effective for at least 95 % of hearing impaired individuals.

MYTH: Babies can’t be fitted with hearing aids.

TRUTH: Actually infants as young as a month old can be fitted with hearing aids. With the increase in hearing tests for at risk newborns, hearing impairments are being detected earlier then ever and the world of hearing aid research and technology is doing its best to keep pace.

MYTH: It doesn’t matter where hearing aids are purchased.

TRUTH: While buying hearing aids through mail order or off the internet may be less expensive, it is not necessarily advisable. By purchasing through these venues, a hearing aid consumer may be giving up the quality of care they will get by working with an audiologist. This includes things such as a qualified hearing evaluation, professional recommendations as to the most appropriate type of hearing aid, expert instruction regarding proper hearing aid usage, follow up care, etc.

Alcoholism and Your Family

Alcoholism is a serious disease which affects the lives of millions of people across America. There are a number of reasons why a person can develop an alcohol addiction, but there is no definitive answer for everyone. The only concrete fact about alcoholism is that it is a serious disease that is often overlooked and ignored by society.

What Is Alcoholism?

Frequently, the terms "alcohol abuse" is used synonymously with "alcoholism;" however, there are distinct differences. Alcohol abuse is considered a temporary or voluntary decision to consume alcohol in dangerous quantities, or with reckless intentions; however, there is no chemical dependency motivating your decisions. Examples of alcohol abuse include: binge drinking, drinking until blacking out or vomiting, or using alcohol as an escape.

Although frequent alcohol abuse can develop into alcoholism, that is not always the result. Alcoholism differs from alcohol abuse in that it consists of four unique behavioral and psychological components:

• Craving-Alcoholics suffer from a severe yearning for alcohol. Frequently, habitual drinking disguises their cravings; however, if they are placed in a situation where alcohol is absent they will oftentimes seek it out, regardless of appropriateness or consideration of consequences.

• Impaired Control-Once an alcoholic begins drinking, it is extremely difficult for them to stop. Typically, they will drink until one of two things happen: 1) their source of alcohol runs out, or 2) they go to bed. These binge drinking episodes can greatly affect one's quality of life.

• Withdrawal-If an alcoholic attempts to stop drinking cold turkey, they experience withdrawal symptoms, in the same way that a smoker or drug addict experienced withdrawals. Once chemically dependent on alcohol, quitting abruptly can even cause serious trauma to the body, sometimes resulting in death.

• Tolerance-As a result of their habitual drinking, alcoholics develop an extraordinarily high tolerance. As time progresses, their ability to consume large amounts of alcohol increases, consequently, strengthening their body's dependency.

Alcoholism and the Family

According to statistics gathered from across the country, alcoholism is a serious problem or families across the country.

• Alcoholism affects more than 50% of American families

• 3 million Americans over 60 abuse alcohol

• Approximately 6.6 million minors in the US live with an alcoholic parent

• 40% of alcoholism is genetic, and the other 60% stems from external circumstances

Bonsai Trees are Both Plants and Works of Art

Bonsai is the Japanese word for tray gardening, although the origins of bonsai can traced back to China. Bonsai trees and plants are kept in minimal size, by trimming and pruning, for aesthetical purposes. The main idea behind the bonsai trees is to keep their look natural, while never showing that there was human intervention. Despite the fact that bonsai trees are grown in containers, pots or planters, they are by no means less healthy than a tree growing in the wild. The bonsai is kept small, by combining pot confinement, and crown and root pruning. The bonsai care requires dedication, creativeness, love for plants and patience. Bonsai trees can be grown indoors for a decorative appeal in a living room or an office, or they can be left in the garden to give a more exotic look. The most widely used tree for bonsai is the maple. The maple trees are perfect for beginners in the art of bonsai. But still, they are amongst the most incredible-looking bonsai around. The care for a bonsai maple tree is not that difficult, all it needs is the right amount of sun and water.

The main method of limiting the size of a bonsai is pruning, which is the careful removal of parts of the tree in order to shape it and limit its size. Pruning is critical for the development of the bonsai. It is the most important method, as it allows you to control the growth of the bonsai and shape it in the form and appearance that you want. This is the art of the bonsai tree, with the main idea of recreating the nature in a miniature form. The frequency of bonsai pruning, mostly depends on the bonsai's size and age. If large branches have to be removed from the bonsai, it is best to remove them in the peak growing season of the bonsai, which starts from the early spring until mid summer. Concave cutters must be used, when removing those large branches from the bonsai.

Shaping the bonsai is achieved through several precise techniques. In order to maintain the small size of the tree, one needs to a apply a consistent regimen of pruning the leaves and the branches. Wiring the bonsai can also be used as a method of shaping it, as copper or aluminimum wire is wrapped around the branches, holding it in place until the bonsai can maintain this shape without the wires. But this type of shaping is not suitable for all bonsai tree, especially those that are too stiff or too brittle.

Going Green without Spending Green

We have this mistaken idea that to go green, we have to spend green dollars. Well, actually, you do not need to strain your budget just to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle. In fact, you will be fattening up your wallets with these tips on going green without spending your green dollars. And trust us, these ways are easy, effective and convenient.

Reduce Food Waste

Your grocery bill may constitute more than 50 percent of your total household bills. Thus, any and all efforts to reduce food waste will add up to big benefits to your pockets and to the environment for many reasons. You can achieve this end by:

* Reducing your food consumption in terms of shopping for groceries.
* Using leftovers for new dishes and enforcing a no-dregs policy
* Planning meals in advance to avoid too many leftovers

Use Heaters Wisely

We are so dependent on hot water for many of our needs from washing our bodies to washing our dishes and clothes. Well, go green by choosing cold water for many activities in the house. Start by taking cold showers when the weather permits instead of hot tub baths. Then progress into using unheated tap water for washing your hands, dishes and clothes. Studies have shown that tap water is just as effective in killing germs as hot water. The trick is in washing your hands properly for 20 seconds, soaking the clothes for 30 minutes to remove stubborn dirt and washing off the dregs on the eating utensils before placing on a full dishwasher.

Unplug the Appliances

You can save as much as 10-15 percent of your electricity bill simply by unplugging the cords from their sockets when these are not in use. This is because so-called phantom electricity does not flow from the grid into your appliances. And speaking of appliances, you can save money by either buying ones with the Energy Star logo or ones that have been refurbished. Of course, make sure that the refurbished appliances are also energy-efficient. You ought to save money in the long run instead of sticking to your run-down appliances. However, do recycle said old appliances with the manufacturers or with the recycling centers.

Use Recycled Materials for Your Home

As much as possible, use recycled materials for your home. You can purchase scrap lumber from hardware stores, vintage wood and glass panels from garage sales and old houses, utensils and ornaments made of recycled materials from green stores and sites, to name a few options. Other equipment such as networking equipment and storage equipment can also be colocated within server racks. Colocation hosting has many advantages above ordinary dedicated server hosting, such as the fact that most data centres provide a ‘remote hands’ service if your server needs a task doing such as an OS reinstall which can only be done from the console; also, the connectivity that your equipment receives will probably be better than that you would receive on a dedicated server, the reason being that your equipment is surrounded by your own equipment meaning that you don’t have any other customers around you that could be a burden on your connection speed.

Data Colocation network is wired in a redundant, meshed configuration for maximum uptime. In the event of a failure in any one device the redundant hot-spare takes over automatically within seconds. Not that our equipment is liable to failure in the first place, with redundant PSU's, processing engines and blades.
In practice, this means your own server is installed in a rack in one of the data collocation centre, taking advantage of our bandwidth and network resilience to connect to the Internet.

The World of Online Nursing

The world of online nursing can be a wonderful, yet frightening experience to anyone who has not taken an online class or who has limited computer skills. In an online nursing program, people are expected to read assignments and complete projects online. This may mean a person will need to know more about their computer before enrolling in an online program. Be sure that basic skills like opening documents, saving files, and downloading images and text area able to be completed. These are skills that any person would need when trying to pull information off the computer.

Once a person is comfortable with their computer, they can choose a nursing program that will suit their needs. The world of online nursing is expanding. With so many people in need of quality care, a nurse should not have any problem finding a job or moving up in their career. There are many jobs that require a bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing. Obtaining this type of degree online is a great way to learn many new skills, improve computer skills, and discover new techniques and procedures. This is especially necessary for those who have not gone back to school in a long time. Medical advances are rapidly changing the face of nursing.

After a few weeks, the world of online nursing will become familiar. Turning in assignments, taking tests, and getting grades will seem routine. Many online programs are only one or two year programs. This means in a short amount of time, a person could be working in a new career they can be proud of. Upon completion, a person will receive a diploma that is similar to one given at a university. With this diploma, a nurse now has many options. The online classes have hopefully given them the foundation they will need to succeed in any area of nursing. Overcoming one’s fears and taking classes over the internet will help a person feel more confident and in control of their lives.

iPod/iTunes: Under Attack from Hackers

Apple's iTunes/iPod is a closed business model, built on two essential premises. One is that songs bought from iTunes will only play on iPod players. The second premise is that songs purchased from other music download sites will not play on iPods.

Now Apple's business model is under attack - by 26-year-old hacker Jon Johansen. Johansen, of Norway, has decoded iPod's Digital Rights Management (DRM) encryption, known as FairPlay, according to reputable sources.

Johansen is making his hack available - for a licensing fee - to businesses seeking to sell hardware competing with iPod, and download sites competing with iTunes.

Note that Johansen's hack does not remove DRM from downloaded songs. It actually adds DRM, to trick iPods into thinking that a given song has been purchased via iTunes.

If this hack takes off, will the closed business model fall apart?

Hardly. Johansen's decision to market his hack through licensing agreements means that your average teen music-lover is not suddenly going to find his music collection iPod-compatible. Instead, she will have more choices of legal music sites, to download songs that will be iPod-playable.

The effect of this may be to lower the industry-standard pricetag of $.99 per song. Apple could face real competition from other sites that can now sell legal music to load into those insatiable iPod hard drives.

Something to consider for Microsoft Zune... if the hack was figured out for iPod, can a Zune hack be far behind?

[Harvey Chute is webmaster of http://www.Zunerama.com, a Microsoft Zune resource center that provides one-stop for all things Zune, including Zune specifications, documentation, comparisons to iPod, FAQ, user forum, and a blog providing analysis and commentary on Zune news.

Google Best Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Practices - Part 4

The four part of this article will concentrate on the link areas of the off-page optimization for Google. I will review 5 essential link areas.

Reciprocal linking does not have the effect it used to.
If you are asking for links right now, stop sending automated link requests. Instead, focus on getting natural links from related sites by using “link bait”, in other words, content that is worth linking to because of its value. When offered a link from partners, make sure their page doesn’t have more than 100 links already in it, look for 20 links max when possible, and also that their site is related to the theme of yours. At last, check that you are getting traffic from the link, or drop it.

“Article swap” and “article partitioning”.
Engage in “article swap” with link partners, and break articles in parts to create a series of them for your visitors to follow (partitioning). Include comments when applicable in all articles (in a different color to distinguish, hint: blue) since it gives visitors great commented content and overcomes duplicate content penalties.

Your internal linking structure.
You want PageRank to be passed to your traffic pages, so avoid absolute links to “About Us”, “Privacy Policy”, etc. Here the have a good combination of absolute and relative links is a must. Use absolute links within your content areas, not in you navigation. The PageRank score is directly affected by this. The “run of site links” filter includes internal pages now, so keep this in mind. Also make sure you have a relative link to your home page from every page. You should link to directories or portals that are authoritative as far as your external links. Always use your targeted keyword phrase for the anchor text. It is also wise to vary your anchor text when linking to your internal pages, and it always should match your unique phrase.

A few more words on PageRank.
Any PageRank of less than 4 is not counted by the algo. That explains why Google shows much less back links for any domain than other search engines. You need to gain good incoming related links, not just any links. Again, the “less is more” concept could be applied here as well. Few good quality links always out weight lots of low quality unrelated links from other sites. Outgoing links are viewed from a different angle, and are related to “the theme” of your site. There is an optimal ratio between the quality vs. the quantity in links. You need to get as many links from pages with a high PageRank and a low number of total links in them.

Your link campaign goals.
Set yourself some achievable goals when it comes to links. Be realistic, and try to get one link exchange, article swap, directory submission, forum comment, etc. per day. Verify quality of all links, and use the “no follow” link attribute or directly remove all links from any site with 100 or more links on their page that is not an authority site.

Debt Relief From Many Small Debts

It's important that you know the amount of debt that you have taken small loans and debts can add up to a sizable lot. For example if you have taken 5 $100 loans, it amounts to $500 debt. A sizable amount of loan to repay for many people. Not only does the principal have to be paid but also the interest payments.

Assuming that loans are carrying a 10% interest, you would be making a $50 per month interest payment. This means that you would be making $600 in interest payments only. Therefore the interest payments and the principal work out to be $1100. Thus the cumulative effect is much more than just the single $100 debts that you would have taken. When you want to get out of debt this debt relief will ensure that you can have a sound financial future. The same applies for all the loans whether they are mortgage, car loans, business loans or education loans. One must shop around for rates and the period of the loan. This will help you to lower the debt burden.

Of course interest payments is tax deductible, but they need to be made out of your income. Therefore the lending agency requires a revenue model or you're past bank statements. They also require your credit rating. Lending agencies have access to the credit ratings of all individuals, hence they can see whether any debt has been paid pack or you have taken any relief from debt or not. This will prove to them whether you are good investment for them or not.

You must also ensure that you have a good revenue stream in order to pay back the loan installments. Take an investment to leverage the debt that you may have taken. This will also provide you with debt relief.

Whatever steps you decide totake, take them now and relive your debt asap.

A Guide To Hypnosis

There are many stories about hypnosis and hypnotherapy being dangerous, turning people into chickens, people not being able to wake up, and unscrupulous hypnotists exploiting their 'vulnerable' patients. However there are many people who are adamant that it has helped change their lives, helping them succeed in their goals. Millions of people swear that it has helped them with many issues such as weight loss, quitting smoking, other addictions, confidence, phobias, stress, success, IBS, and many more issues.

Many people are missing out on this powerful yet safe therapeutic tool because they are too afraid to use it. I hope to dispel these fears by answering these common questions about hypnotherapy.

Can I be hypnotized? Most people can go into a hypnotic trance. The only types of people that cannot be hypnotised are ... 1. Those suffering from psychosis or a thought disorder 2. A person with a low IQ 3. A person does not want to be hypnotised. It is very easy to resist hypnosis if you want to. What is a hypnotic trance? It is a normal and natural state that most of us experience several times a day. It commonly happens when people are driving. Have you ever driven somewhere and not really remembered the journey? It also often occurs when reading a book or watching TV. Sometimes you can be so absorbed in the book or TV programme that you are not consciously aware that someone is talking to you. Hypnosis is the focussing of the conscious attention in such a narrow corridor of influence. The conscious mind is so intensely focussed that other influences are not being critically analysed by the conscious mind. We still hear them, although we are not always aware. A good example of this is when you are in a place where there are several conversations going on at once. They may all sound like a mass of background noise. However if someone in one of those conversations mentions your name, you then consciously focus on that conversation. How did you know someone said your name? Your subconscious mind (which is far more powerful than your conscious mind) was listening to EVERY conversation AT THE SAME TIME! That is perhaps a reason why you can sometimes "just know" something. Your subconscious mind has absorbed it without you consciously being aware.

What does hypnosis feel like? When in a trance you feel more mentally and physically relaxed. It is a very pleasant experience, and you can tell that you are still in control. You can still hear exactly what is going on around you, unless you choose to drift your attention away. You become aware that you can easily stand up, talk, or move whenever you want. A lot of people (me included) when they first experience a hypnotic trance move their fingers or hands in order to test whether they can move at will. Sometimes a patient can be a little difficult to wake up. This is not a sinister thing as it has been portrayed. No one has ever been stuck in trance. It is more a case that a patient just "can't be bothered" to wake up as it feels so pleasant. However they soon become bored and will wake up pretty soon. One trick the old hypnosis pro's use is to tell the patient that they are charging for the time. It's amazing how quickly they then wake up!

Is hypnosis dangerous? A hypnotic trance is actually a very natural state that almost everyone goes into several times per day. In 1955 the British Medical Association set up an inquiry which favourably reported hypnosis as a therapeutic tool. It even recommended that it should be taught at medical schools. Hypnosis was also approved by the Council of Mental Health of the American Medical Association in September of 1958 as a safe practice with no harmful side effects. Since then there has been acceleration in the establishment of hypnosis societies for doctors, dentists, and psychologists. No one has been seriously hurt with hypnosis.

Can I be made to do things against my will? You could never be made to do anything against your will or contrary to your value system. If this was actually possible, would there not be criminals learning the art of hypnotherapy in order to hypnotise their bank managers to opening the vaults and handing over a large sum of cash?! In a trance, you would not unknowingly reveal your deepest secrets. You can even lie when in a trance, which is one reason why testimony in hypnosis is not permissible evidence in a court of law. It is only used by police to help with the investigation. A person will only act upon suggestions that serve them in some way or reinforce an expected behaviour, anything else their subconscious will just ignore. Most people develop these misperceptions from seeing or hearing about a Stage Hypnosis show. However they largely achieve their results from showmanship, selection of the more extrovert people, and peer pressure.

How long will it take before I notice a change? In one session, you can expect to become more relaxed than you are right now. Most people do not relax enough, and some people never seem to relax! Being more relaxed can help most mental and physical problems that you may have. I have often had patients report back to me that people noticed that they seemed more relaxed after just one session. In the past I have significantly helped problems such as IBS, skin complaints, and addictions, simply by doing relaxation work. Hypnosis can bridge the gap between your head and your heart, making your goals much more emotionally compelling, and therefore increasing your chances of permanent change. Depending upon the intensity of your session and the number of times you have listened to the recording, you will notice suggestions for the desired behavioural changes spontaneously popping into your conscious mind almost immediately.
